The uTest Bug Olympics: Opening Ceremony

Well there’s no fireworks, synchronized dance routines or passing of the torch – but the Olympics have started nonetheless. We’re talking of course about the uTest Bug Olympics, our latest Facebook competition, which got underway this morning.

As with the “regular” Olympic games, this will be a contest among nations and individuals alike. But instead of settling the score via curling, ping pong and other grueling sports, the Bug Olympics will challenge testers to find and submit the most interesting software bugs. And rather than gold, silver and bronze medals, the three top-place finishers will receive an iPad, iPod Touch and iPod Nano respectively. Besides that, it’s exactly like the Olympic games we all know and love.

Here’s how to enter: Just go to our wall and post a screenshot of a software or website bug you’ve discovered, along with the following comment: “This bug was found in (country name).” Complete rules and conditions can be found here (PDF).

Here’s how to win:

  • Every competitor who submits a bug represents his or her own country, and the three countries that receive the most cumulative “likes” will make it to the medal round.
  • In this round, the three competitors who received the most “likes” for their country will have the chance to capture their country’s medal. The winner from the country that received the most likes will win the gold medal, the winner from the country that received the second-most likes will win the silver metal, and the winner from the country that received the third-most likes will win the bronze metal.
  • Each country’s winner will be chosen on the basis of three criteria: 1) creativity and quality of submission, 2) number of likes and comments and 3) judges’ discretion.

This contest closes at 8am EST on December 6, 2010. So what are you waiting for? Start training and let the games begin!
