uTest Goes BIG at TechCrunch Disrupt

As you may have read on Monday’s blog post, uTest launched a new informational campaign to promote http://www.inthewildtesting.com.   The web site – and associated social media channels, including a Twitter profile – are intended to educate forward-thinking technology leaders about the necessity, benefits and real use cases of in-the-wild testing.

We decided to launch it at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco because the very concept of in-the-wild software testing (versus traditional methodologies) is, well…disruptive.

Sure enough, TechCrunch Disrupt turned out to be the perfect event!  There were more than 2,600 innovative, entrepreneurial-minded techies, investors and exhibitors (35% more attendees than expected) filling the halls of the Design Concourse Center from Monday to Wednesday.  In its usual fashion, the conference itself attracted top industry-leaders such as Reid Hoffman of LinkedIn, Marissa Mayer of Google, Vinod Khosla, and even Ashton Kutcher.

uTest hosted a ton of terrific activities over the course of the event:

Just in time to ring in the new year, we received another reason to celebrate here at uTest! uTest has been selected as a finalist for Red Herring’s top 100 Global award, a prestigious list honoring the year’s most promising private technology ventures from around the world.

You may remember when we were honored with the RH 100 North America award back in June. Check out the other category leaders who made the 2010 RH Global finalists list!

All finalists are selected based on their tech innovation, management strength, market size, investor record, customer acquisition, and financial health. Companies in spaces such as mobile, security, Web 2.0, software, hardware, biotech, and clean tech quickly rose to the top of the list.

The winners will be announced at the RH Global awards ceremony on January 26 in L.A., and Doron will be presenting uTest at the RH Global forum which runs from January 24-26, 2011. Shoot us a note if you’ll be in town!

uTest Makes ‘Top 100 Private Companies’ List (On Both The East & West Coasts!)

What an exciting way to wrap up the week here at uTest. As we continue to grow (and by grow, I mean in all aspects, including cool customers, brilliant testers and amazing staff) and expand into new areas of testing, the most renowned awards organizations are taking notice.

Late last night in San Diego…after an extensive review of our track record and our CEO Doron Reuveni’s on-site presentation, uTest was selected as a winner of the 2010 Red Herring 100 North America Award. The list honors the year’s most promising private tech ventures from North America. The companies were selected based on their technological innovation, management strength, market size, investor record, customer acquisition and financial health. Congrats to all other RH 100 winners, including our good friends at SOASTA!

This past Monday in Boston…uTest was also honored as an AlwaysOn East Top 100 winner, a list comprised of leading East Coast companies pioneering in cloud computing and SaaS technologies. uTest’s Matt Johnston was invited to present at the AlwaysOn East event (a.k.a. Venture Summit East) as part of a select group of top execs showcasing their technologies. Here’s the presentation below in case you missed it!

Thanks to all for following our adventures across the country this week!

uTest Up For 3 Stevie Awards, Including “Most Innovative Company”

Last year, we were psyched to take home the “Best New Company of the Year” for 2009 at the American Business Awards (a.k.a. The Stevies). This year, we’re even more fired up to let you know that the members of the Stevie Awards’ Board have named uTest a finalist in three top categories:

1. Most Innovative Company Of The Year
2. Best Blog in the Computer Services category (for this blog) and
3. B2B Communications Campaign Of The Year
(for the Bug Battle!)

Although we’ve made the shortlist, we definitely have our work cut out for us to bring in these big wins. Take the Comm Campaign category for example — we’re up against huge software leaders, including EMC and Novell. See the complete list of finalists here!

The American Business Awards are the U.S.’s premier business awards program. More than 2,700 entries in virtually every industry were submitted for consideration this year. The winners will be announced on Monday, June 21 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square/NYC. More than 600 execs from around the globe are expected to attend.

uTest Makes BBJ’s List of Best Places to Work In 2010

Boston Business Journal just announced their list of Best Places To Work. And with nearly 450 nominees and only 20 companies making the cut in the Small Company category (20-100 employees), it’s a tough list to get on. But we’ve never shied away from a tough competition, so we threw our hat in the ring. And lo and behold, we’re proud to report that uTest has joined this prestigious list of  the best places to work in Massachusetts!

We’re stoked to be on a list alongside global heavyweights like Google, Microsoft, Ritz-Carlton, Comcast, as well as local startup legends like Carbonite and HubSpot. So, how did we do it? Well, from our open bullpen layout to our always-stocked kitchen to tweeting from the slopes,  to a company outing that consists of climbing Mount Monadnock, uTest is not your typical company… even by startup standards.

uTest Blog Abuzz With Hive Award Win @ SXSW

Last week, we found out that our humble little Software Testing Blog won the Hive Award at SXSW as the top business software blog (here’s the slideshow and the PDF report). We’re honored to make this prestigious list, along with brands we love such as HowStuffWorks, Nokia, Nike, HBO and About.com.

Part of the reason this blog has been so successful in the past year is how infrequently we talk about ourselves (ugh, boring). Well, I’m allowing myself to break that rule briefly so I can thank the people who have made our blog what it is today.

  • Our in-house team (Stanton, Mike, Jenny and Peter) for their tireless efforts and talented writing about everything from mobile apps to social media to software testing to crowdsourcing trends.
  • Our guest bloggers from the uTest community who have written passionately about everything from mobile testing to QA in agile environments to the evolving roles of testers.
  • Our Testing The Limits guests (including James Whittaker, Matt Heusser, James Bach, Michael Bolton and Jon Bach) who have not only tolerated our wide range of questions — from the insightful to the inane — but joined in with good humor, wit, eloquence and intellect.

I’ll end this little Oscar speech before the orchestra starts playing me off stage. Suffice it to say, we love writing for you; we’ll keep scouring every corner of the world (virtual and physical) for fresh topics and angles about anything related to software; and we’ll keep reminding ourselves why we’ve had this success: we write stuff that you seem to enjoy reading. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

Vote uTest for “Best Corporate Blog” in Mashable’s Open WebAwards!

So if you like the uTest blog, this is your chance to cast your vote and  support uTest and our community. Here’s how it works:

  1. Go to http://mashable.com/owa/votes. (You must be signed into your Facebook or Twitter account.)

uTest Wins 2009 WebAward for “Outstanding Website”

WebAward 2009I’m thrilled to let you know that last week uTest was internationally recognized, wining the 2009 WebAward for “Outstanding Website” by the Web Marketing Association.

A big thank you to our partner Boston Interactive for helping us incorporate a more human face to uTest’s website and revamping it to reflect uTest’s community-centric business model.

As you know, we relaunched our website back in May 2009, and four months later, we’re already receiving high honors for it! Now in its 13th year, the WebAwards is the premier annual website award competition that names the best websites while setting the standard of excellence for all website development.

During this year’s competition, more than 2,000 sites from 45 countries were nominated in 96 industry categories. Entries were judged on design, copy writing, innovation, content, interactivity, navigation, and use of technology.

The new uTest website has enabled us to bring the real-world stories of our customers and testers to the forefront of the web experience to increase visibility into uTest’s global testing community of 19,000+ and enhance collaboration among software professionals worldwide. We’re honored to be among this year’s winners!
